The new ICARP IV Call to Action for Policy Makers has been released during the 2026 Arctic Circle Assembly and is now available for download.
The publication presents the main outcomes of the Fourth International Conference on Arctic Research Planning and sets out a roadmap for Arctic research and action through 2035. It draws on contributions from thousands of participants across dozens of countries, including Indigenous Peoples, research organisations, governments and other stakeholders.
The report identifies four priorities for the coming decade: sustained investment in Arctic observation, research, innovation and education; stronger links between science, climate resilience and adaptation; support for Indigenous leadership and equitable knowledge systems; and continued international scientific cooperation during a period of geopolitical uncertainty.
It calls on researchers, educators, institutions and funders to move from planning to implementation through long-term investment, collaboration across borders and stronger research and observing systems. The report also highlights ICARP IV’s role in preparing for the Fifth International Polar Year in 2032–33.
